John N. MacLeod | Iain N. MacLeòid (1880, Kilvaxter, Trotternish, Skye –1954) was a Gaelic author, editor, and teacher, originally from Skye who spent most of his life in Lewis.

His teacher in Trotternish was John MacNab | Iain Mac an Aba, a Gaelic scholar and writer who later also contributed to Erskine’s periodicals. He had a strong influence on MacLeod as a writer and a future teacher.

MacLeod edited the collection of Lewis poetry Bàrdachd Leòdhais (1916). His weekly letters to the Stornoway Gazette were published as Litrichean Alasdair Mhòir (1932).

His Rèiteach Mòraig [Morag’s Betrothal] (1911) is the first published original stand-alone Gaelic play. In 1910, it appeared in Erskine’s An Sgeulaiche. In 1916, it was followed by Pòsadh Mòraig [Morag’s Wedding].
