Faloisg

A contributor using the penname ‘Faloisg’ (no confirmed dates) published an essay about Gaelic prose in An Sgeulaiche. The essay includes references to Fletcher of Saltoun, Walter Scott, and writing in Irish, and argues for the importance of fiction for Gaelic and for Scotland as a nation. The same contributor also sent a letter to Guth na Bliadhna, adding some new verses to songs previously discussed by Malcolm MacFarlane | Calum MacPhàrlain, based on Irish sources, and an allegorical prose tale about Scotland and Ireland. Michael Newton has described it as ‘the most interesting example of the literary exploitation of prophecy I have yet found is a short allegory expressing a strong pan-Gaelic nationalism, which draws strongly
upon the idiom and style of traditional folk-tale’ (2010: 155).
