Alasdair Beag

The writer using the name ‘Alasdair Beag’ (no confirmed dates) made two contributions to Guth na Bliadhna: ‘Mo Sgeul’, a translation from Old Irish into modern Gaelic (a poem which originally appeared in Meyer’s Songs of Summer and Winter), and the article ‘Gaelic Literature and Professor Kuno Meyer.’ The article shows an interest in Irish literature, appreciates Meyer’s appointment to the post of MacCallum lecturer in Celtic at the University of Glasgow, and discusses the state of Scottish manuscript collections and the lack of research into them. John N. MacLeod | Iain N. MacLeòid was later using the nickname ‘Alasdair Mòr’, so the choice of the penname could be a reference.
